Celebrate Quebec’s Intellectual Disability Week

Celebrate Quebec’s Intellectual Disability Week

In its 25th year, the Semaine québécoise de la déficience intellectuelle will take place from March 10 to 16, 2013, with the theme “Comme on se ressemble!” (We are so similar!). Its goal is to educate and build awareness among the general public, decision-makers and promoters of change within the community with regards to the issues and new developments in intellectual disability. It also aims to:

  • encourage and support activities that help families and promote the autonomy of people with an intellectual disability
  • defend and promote the interests of people with an intellectual disability and their families.

Find out more and watch the promotional video on the Website of the Association québécoise pour l’intégration sociale (AQIS).

The site also has a list of activities planned for Montreal.

The Fédération québécoise des CRDITED is promoting its video Independence is precious on the importance of autonomy and social participation for people with an intellectual disability. It stars Mélanie Bastien-Ouimet, who lives on her own in an apartment and enjoys having a job, a theatre hobby and a boyfriend.

At WMRC, adult community integration services and the children’s intellectual disability team will promote the Week with posters, balloons, ribbons and pins. We also keep you up to date on news and activities on our Facebook page.

We wish you a wonderful week!
