Team internships at Standard Life

Standard Life can boast one of West Montreal Readaptation Centre’s most longstanding and successful work integration partnerships.
The leading long-term savings and investment company employs up to 10 WMRC users at its office in downtown Montreal, where they enjoy a breathtaking 14th floor view.
In September 2010, Standard Life celebrated the fourth anniversary of its partnership with WMRC, which provides specialized services to people with intellectual disabilities and autism. Standard Life was the first Montreal-based company to integrate the Centre’s clients into a professional environment.
During those four years, the partnership grew from a pilot project to a vital program employing about 10 users, who assemble over 2,000 product literature kits weekly, which are then distributed to customers of the company’s Group Savings and Retirement division. The work provides them with a professional, structured environment to exercise their strengths and interests. It also allows Standard Life to reinforce its commitment to supporting the community, and to benefit from a reliable, dedicated workforce.
“The WMRC clients on this team bring a contagious positive attitude to everyone who works with them,” said Johanne Laconne, Team Leader, Plan Documentation for Standard Life. “They are dedicated and passionate about their job, as demonstrated by the quality of the information kits they assemble for our customers. We’re extremely pleased with this partnership!”
“The users took to it right away, and Standard Life went out of its way to make them feel welcome,” said Alain Loslier, rehabilitation manager for WMRC.
In fact, thanks to the openness of Standard Life employees, the partnership has extended to other departments, with users working as individuals outside the kit assembly group. And if problems ever arise, according to Alain, “we know we can count on Standard Life to work with us to find solutions.
That said, the most common saying we hear from our users is, `I love working here at Standard Life and I hope to stay here a very long time!’”
